Having only formed in spring of 2015, Mungion is a relatively new band to the jam scene. However, for those unfamiliar with the group, they can now get a taste of the band’s unparalleled live performances and understand what the buzz is all about with the release of Chicago-based four piece’s first-ever live album, Live Fun Vol. 1.
Despite the recent beginnings of the project, Mungion has become one of the fastest rising acts in the jam scene, quickly earning a legion of fans with their energetic, raucous live shows, and wild improvisations. Composed of Justin Reckamp (guitar/vocals), Joe Re (keyboards/vocals), Sean Carolan (bass/vocals), and Matt Kellen (drums/vocals), the group has crafted ambitious compositions that transform in a live setting, given the band’s penchant for fearless, no-holds-barred jams and fierce onstage demeanor.
Live Fun Vol. 1 offers highlights from Mungion’s debut headlining tour in winter of 2018, including cuts from their high-octane performances in Palatine, Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; Washington, D.C.; and Birmingham, Alabama. The nine-track live release features a healthy mix of tracks off the band’s acclaimed 2016 studio debut, Scary Blankets, including transformative live renditions of fan-favorites “Beneath The Shallows”, “Schvingo”, and “Myrtle”, as well as a handful of newer songs that have only been performed live.

Live Fun Vol. 1 is very special to us. We feel it’s a great representation of where the band was at during our first headlining tour. It’s our first step towards having readily accessible content on the major platforms for our amazing fans. We sat down and hand-picked some of our favorite versions of tunes that showcase some of our favorite improvisational moments from tour… It’s also nice to pick songs where we didn’t mess up haha! On the heels of this monumental release from the band, Mungion will embark on an extensive festival tour this summer, which kicks off this weekend at Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s annual festival, Domefest, in Bedford, Pennsylvania. In addition to a number of regional festivals, the band will perform sets at high-profile nationally renowned events, including Summer Camp, Camp Bisco, Werk Out, and more. The group has also a date scheduled to open for jam band staple, moe., at West Lafayette, Indiana’s Tippecanoe County Amphitheater on July 18th. Look below for a full list of the band’s tour dates.
