Nooky Jones, the emerging R&B/soul outfit out of Minneapolis’ thriving music scene, delivers an energizing listening experience with their latest single, “After Two”, which features additional playing from talented Vulfpeck guitarist and fellow Minnesota native, Cory Wong. The collaborative track is set to appear on their forthcoming EP, Like Candy, due out tomorrow, September 27th.

Today, ahead of the album’s arrival, Live For Live Music is excited to premiere Nooky Jones and Cory Wong’s “After Two”, which packs an explosion of horn-filled, funk-rock excitement into 4:45 minutes from start to climactic finish. Singer Cameron Kinghorn leads the way through the dance-friendly original on vocals, but the recording is really given that extra boost of vibrancy thanks to horn players Adam Meckler (Trumpet) and Scott Agster (Trombone).

Some fans may recognize the familiar makeup of “After Two”, as it’s really an updated arrangement of another original, “After One”, the lead track on Nooky Jones’ 2017 self-titled debut album. As the band tells Live For Live Music, “‘After Two (feat. Cory Wong)’ is our funkiest release to date, and our biggest nod to the Minneapolis sound. The track is a re-imagination of a song called ‘After One’ from our debut album. We kept most of the lyrics, but the melody, groove, and arrangement are completely new. We have been friends with Cory Wong for quite some time now as he’s a Minneapolis native, and we knew that he would be a perfect feature for the track.”

The song also is also given the flavor category “crispy”—a theme which the band utilizes on the various tracks to appear on their new album. Others flavors tied to the various songs include “Gimme Some More” (tempting), “Pardon Me” (dark), “Like Candy” (sweet), and “Everything You Do” (rich).
