Primus has announced the postponement of the band’s upcoming A Tribute To Kings tour. The run of concerts across the United States was set to feature an entire performance the 1977 Rush album.
The tour was announced just over a month after the death of Rush drummer Neil Peart, who died of brain cancer on January 10th. Primus was set to team up with Wolfmother, The Sword, and Battles on a cross country tour from May to August.

In a post to the band’s Facebook page, Primus announced that the tour would not go on as planned. The band, headed by bassist Les Claypool, did not announce new dates, however, and said that a rescheduled itinerary “will become available the moment it’s able to be shared.” In the meantime, Primus urged fans to hang on to their tickets, as they will be honored for the new dates, whenever those are announced. Additionally, the band said that a majority of venues will offer refunds when the new dates are announced, “or after 60 days if it takes extra time to find new dates.”
The tour was set to begin on May 26th with a concert at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving, TX. With that early of a start date, it is not entirely surprising that Primus and company were forced to postpone the shows, and it marks just the latest large-scale summer tour to be canceled. While the A Tribute To Kings tour was not nearly the same size as the Phish or Dead & Company summer tours, Primus’ cancellation is just further proof that even (comparatively) smaller gatherings won’t be returning this summer.
