Beloved recording artist Prince passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a veritable treasure trove of unreleased music in his vault. With two individuals now in charge of overseeing Prince’s assets, it seems more and more likely that his music will see the light of day.
The two men overseeing the Prince estate are Charles Koppelman, the head of EMI who signed Prince and helped release Emancipation (1996), and Londell McMillan, Prince’s lawyer and manager. “There is so much to be done with this estate. There are vaults full of music,” said Koppelman to the New York Post.
Koppelman also says that an entire production to Prince could be put together, on par with a Broadway musical or Cirque de Soleil show dedicated to The Purple One. “Prince was an icon on the level of The Beatles and Michael Jackson, and his legacy should be honored,” Koppelman said in the interview. “Though his name was Prince, I always thought he was the king of music.”
Could you imagine a Prince musical? It would have to be named something other than The Color Purple…
