An all-star cast of world-class musicians assembled at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom and Cervantes’ Other Side on Friday following the second of four Phish shows at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park for a dual-room takeover featuring Purple Party: A Tribute To Prince and NJ upstarts Dogs In A Pile.

Purple Party: A Tribute To Prince honored the legacy of the Purple One in Cervantes’ main room with selections from Prince’s iconic catalog performed by some of today’s top players including keyboardists Casey Russell (Magic Beans) and Joey Porter (The Motet), guitarists Isaiah Sharkey (John Mayer, D’Angelo) and Ryan Jalbert (The Motet), guitarist/keyboardist Craig Brodhead, drummer Isaac Teel (TAUK), percussionist Will Trask, bassist Nate Edgar (The Nth Power), saxophonists James Casey (Trey Anastasio Band) and Nicholas Gerlach, trumpeter Parris Fleming, and a trio of vocalists including Shira EliasLyle Divinsky, and Kim Dawson. Having made its debut at Jazz Fest in 2018, Purple Party has since hosted a series of acclaimed performances with various all-star lineups at Brooklyn Comes Alive, Denver’s The Big Melt, and Jazz Fest 2019 and 2022. Friday marked the Prince tribute’s first return to Denver since The Big Melt in 2019.

Meanwhile, Dogs In A Pile offered a set of high-energy psychedelic jams over on Cervantes’ Other Side. The Jersey Shore jam band made its Denver debut in Cervantes’ main room the previous night. For Friday’s post-Phish celebration, though, the group migrated to the Other Side and kept the party raging with high-impact improvisations to compliment the soul-pop and R&B in the main room. With two disparate performances coalescing in a single dual-room event, fans were able to choose a side and jam out or bounce back and forth between the main room and the Other Side as they pleased.
