Queens of the Stone Age are back with their first new album in six years, In Times New Roman… The follow-up to the Josh Homme-led project’s 2017 disc Villains is out on June 16th via Matador and is heralded with the lead single “Emotion Sickness”.

Between the album preview and syncopated power chords of “Emotion Sickness”, the new Queens of the Stone Age reeks of rock n’ roll machismo. Despite being gone six years, Homme has kept with the times and presents a contemporary alt-rock sound. In the trailer, Roman chancellors do cocaine off Hostess cupcakes for unmistakable and unapologetic rockstar opulence.

Press materials denote that In Times New Roman… deals with the emotional hardship endured by the QOTSA members (Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman, and Jon Theodore) over the past six years. Homme has had his trials play out very publicly, as he recently won a custody battle with his ex-wife, Brody Dalle, who accused him of domestic violence and abuse. The bandleader won temporary custody of his children, but stated in a press release that he hopes he and Dalle “can co-parent their children peacefully.”

While staying relatively studio silent, Homme also recently reactivated his supergroup Them Crooked Vultures with John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl for sets at the Taylor Hawkins tribute shows in California and London.
