Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is the latest musician to join the teaching staff of the MasterClass online education series, as The Tonight Show bandleader and drummer of The Roots is now your new professor in the field of DJing and music curation.

Although Questlove could easily teach a MasterClass in culinary book publishing or documentary filmmaking, the famous musician and DJ will give fans a roadmap on the fundamentals and methods to becoming a legitimate DJ. The announcement video shared on Thursday hears Questlove explain how his MasterClass sessions will educate aspiring DJs on how to curate the perfect playlist, how to search for music, how to decide where certain songs or tracks belong in a DJ set, and how to utilize these skills into becoming a well-rounded DJ.

In addition to his long-running DJ residency at New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl over the years, more recently Questlove has hosted DJ livestreams from his home during the ongoing shutdown of live events.

“It’s one thing to listen to music, but it’s another thing to embrace it and have it come to you,” Questlove said in a press statement. “Nothing will take the place of the passion that I feel for music, and I hope my MasterClass will open up a portal in your heart so that you learn to love music, find it and appreciate it.”
