Red Hot Chili Peppers showed their softer side on the band’s newest single, “Not The One”. The track arrives as the third single from the RHCP’s upcoming Rick Rubin-produced album, Unlimited Love, out April 1st.

With its distant opening grand piano keys, “Not The One” quickly identifies itself as one of the proto punk-funk genre-hoppers’ more introspective songs. Frontman Anthony Kiedis confronts all the ways he hasn’t lived up to others’ expectations as he sings, “I’m not the one you fell into/I’m not the one, the one for you.”

Unlimited Love will mark Red Hot Chili Peppers’ first album with guitarist John Frusciante since 2006’s Stadium Arcadium. The 17-track offering will also mark the Los Angeles foursome’s reunion with Def Jam Recordings founder Rick Rubin. The enigmatic studio guru produced all of the band’s albums from 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik through 2011’s I’m with You, but was replaced by Danger Mouse on 2016’s The Getaway.

“Our only goal is to get lost in the music,” the band said at the album’s announcement. “We spent thousands of hours, collectively and individually, honing our craft and showing up for one another, to make the best album we could,” the band said in a statement about the album. “Our antennae attuned to the divine cosmos, we were just so damn grateful for the opportunity to be in a room together, and, once again, try to get better. Days, weeks and months spent listening to each other, composing, jamming freely, and arranging the fruit of those jams with great care and purpose. The sounds, rhythms, vibrations, words and melodies had us enrapt.”
