As dawn breaks on the year 2021, things are looking more hopeful for the live concert industry than last year. Vaccines are being distributed across the United States as thousands of venues are finally able to apply for federal assistance thanks to the Save Our Stages provision in the latest stimulus package.

While the picture remains unclear, there are plenty of venues with dates on the books for 2021—mostly those rescheduled from 2020 when the timeline of the pandemic was, in general, widely underestimated. Take Red Rocks Amphitheatre, for example. The famous venue has a full slate of shows on its calendar for its 2021 season, which typically begins in April, from rescheduled 2020 shows alone. As we know all too well, however, no dates are set in stone in the age of the coronavirus.

The iconic Morrison, CO amphitheater and its operating agency, Denver Arts & Venues, have yet to announce “official” plans for approaching Red Rocks’ concert season, which typically begins in April. In October, Denver Arts & Venues made the decision to close all of its venues until further notice. This included Red Rocks, Denver Performing Arts Complex, and McNichols Civic Center and came with part-time or full-time furlough of all of the production firm’s employees. Following that announcement, which came at the beginning of September, artists jumped at the opportunity to perform at Red Rocks before it shut down for the season. September saw greatly reduced-capacity concerts from Andy Frasco, who made his debut at the venue, as well as socially-distanced shows from Lotus and Nathaniel Rateliff. Billy Strings also squeezed in a fan-less show before the venue closed.

Of the many artists listed on the schedule for this year, notably absent is Widespread Panic. This past year marked the first time since 2012 that the Athens, GA-bred jam outfit didn’t play Red Rocks, with the June 28th–30th, 2019 run signaling the band’s 60th–62nd consecutive sold-out shows. While this schedule of concerts isn’t set in stone—and fans should note is subject to change in response to the pandemic—2021 may join 2004, 2009, 2012, and 2020 as the only years that Widespread Panic has not returned to Red Rocks following its 1996 headlining debut at the venue. That said, the band’s usual Red Rocks weekend (the last weekend in June) does not yet have a show scheduled, so an announcement could easily come later.

For tickets and more information on the 2021 schedule of concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, head over to the venue’s website. Scroll down to see a full rundown of shows currently on the books.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Red Rocks had announced its official 2021 concert schedule. That is not the case. The list of dates cited in the Out There Colorado report published on Wednesday references the existing list of rescheduled shows from the Red Rocks website, not a new announcement. Red Rocks and Denver Arts & Venues, the city agency that operates Red Rocks and other venues, have yet to announce an official plan for the 2021 season with regard to the pandemic, and the rescheduled dates remain subject to change as the COVID-19 picture develops.
