Dopapod guitarist Rob Compa has released a new single, “Terra Firma”, featuring drummer Russ Lawton (Trey Anastasio Band, Soule Monde) and bassist Pat Markley. Written while his main project was on hiatus, the new track is set to appear on Compa’s debut solo album, Same Damn Thing, due out on September 13th.
Along with Lawton and Markley, the forthcoming eight-track LP features guests appearances by drummer Michelangelo Carubba (Turkuaz) and bassist Joey Arcuri (Driftwood).
Premiered by Relix, Compa shared his thoughts on the new single. He explained,
I started writing “Terra Firma” while spending Christmas in my hometown with my Mom and Dad two years ago. It was during really confusing and transitional time for me, and I was looking for a lot of answers. One day I was taking a walk, and a pretty serious car accident happened right in front of me. I spent the next few days trying to figure out what that meant, why it happened, and if it was some sort of sign about what I should do, where I should go… whatever. The only realization I ended up having about it was that things like that are completely random. If I invent some kind of message via coincidental events, then I’m making some really important decisions based on things that have nothing to do with me or my situation. “Terra Firma” is essentially about not letting ourselves see random events as omens or fate, and instead basing our decisions on rationality, and what we know is best for ourselves and the people that matter to us.
