Robert Plant recently announced his forthcoming DIGGING DEEP anthology which will be comprised of 30 songs over two CDs in correlation with the third season of his podcast, Digging Deep with Robert Plant. The 30-track collection due out October 2nd via Plant’s own Es Paranza label will contain three previously-unreleased songs, including one entitled, “Charlie Patton Highway (Turn it Up, Pt. 1)”, which was shared on Thursday.

The song’s heavy, even darker themes can be traced back to the time Plant spent in the American south near the Delta region of Mississippi, where black artists forged the foundations of what would become rock and roll years before.

Plant explains,

I spent time in the hill country of north Mississippi around Como, dropping back to Clarksdale, the incredible center of black music talent over the years. I weaved my car through the Delta back roads, listening to the remarkable protestations of Mississippi AM radio. I was looking at my world and my times from this unfamiliar place and found myself exposed to a nightmare world of half-truths.
