Robert Randolph, pedal steel guitar extraordinaire, will be revisiting his roots in his most recent project with the The Slide Brothers. Growing up in The House of God Church, Randolph was not familiar with the non-religious music of The Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Buddy Guy among others. It wasn’t until his late teens, when he attended a Stevie Ray Vaughan concert, that his world view of music began to change. When listening to Randolph, you can hear gospel, blues, and rock incorporated so perfectly together.
After making a name for himself in the rock, blues, and jazz worlds, playing alongside artists like Eric Clapton, B.B. King, John Medeski, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Luther Dickinson, and a bevy of incredible artists, Randolph is ready to revisit his roots with the Sacred Steel innovators The Slide Brothers (Calvin Cooke, Chuck Campbell, Darick Campbell, and Aubrey Ghent – all of whom were raised worshiping and performing in The Church of the Living God (quite similarly to Randolph).
Set for release on February 19th, The Slide Brothers’ album includes 11 tracks and features some of the most dynamic electric slide guitar playing ever recorded. Inspired by Randolph to finally emerge beyond their respected positions within the sacred steel community, the Slide Brothers tackle rock, funk and even the deepest blues with a ferocity that will startle fans of Duane Allman, Derek Trucks and even Muddy Waters.
The Slide Brothers will be giving praise to the gospel music that they were raised on, while giving their respect to the music of The Allman Brothers, with the track “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin'”, celebrating the music of Elmore James, and even throwing in a cover of Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You” featuring Shemekia Copeland. This is going to be one album that you will not want to miss out on.
The band will be playing a few shows in support of the album, and one local show will be at The Paramount in Huntington, NY on February 8th.
