A number of players from the NFL‘s San Francisco 49ers were among the thousands of fans who filed into Las Vegas, NV’s Sphere to see modern-day Grateful Dead offshoot Dead & Company this past weekend.
Instagram posts from various members of the 9ers roster show running back Christian McCaffery, tight ends George Kittle and Jake Tonges, defensive end Nick Bosa, and fullback Kyle Juszczyk rocking Dead merch, hanging with Bob Weir and Jay Lane backstage, and generally having a grand old time with the good old Grateful De— I mean, with Dead & Company (the posts got a little liberal with billing, but we’ll let the ruling on the field stand).

“Grateful Dead with the boys,” wrote Kittle on his Instagram. “The Grateful Dead • 5/10/25,” McCaffery wrote on his page, while Bosa captioned his post, “Dead head.” Whatever the 49ers want to call what they saw, it seems they’re now on the bus: “10/10 would recommend,” Tonges wrote. “I get it,” Juszczyk commented on Kittle’s post.
Oh, and Jonah Hill was there, too, along with film producer Matt Dines. No word yet on whether the Sphere night has moved Hill (brightly) to revive his back-burnered Jerry Garcia biopic. Scroll down to view the posts from the notable Dead & Company Sphere attendees this past weekend.
Of note, Bob Weir is no stranger to the 49ers’ home field, Santa Clara, CA’s Levi’s Stadium. Beyond his visits to the stadium to cheer on the team, Weir played two sold-out shows there in 2015 to open the Dead’s 50th-anniversary celebration, Fare Thee Well. Back in early 2024, he was spotted mingling with legendary 49ers quarterback Joe Montana and football Hall of Famers/NFL analysts Howie Long, Michael Strahan, and Jimmy Johnson ahead of the NFC Championship Game.

Soon after their Sphere experience, the Deadhead 9ers got word that they’ll be getting another Dead & Co show in their neck of the woods sooner rather than later: On Monday, the mayor of San Francisco announced that the band will perform for three nights in Golden Gate Park on August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2025 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead. The band has yet to officially announce plans for the shows, likely due to ongoing permitting processes. Read more about the planned Dead & Company concerts in Golden Gate Park here.
Dead & Company will wrap up their 2025 Sphere residency with three shows this week (Thursday–Saturday, 3/15–3/17). Find tickets to the last three 2025 Dead Forever shows in Las Vegas here. Find tickets to San Francisco 49ers games during the upcoming 2025–2026 season here.
