The Grateful Dead’s connection to San Francisco is a long and storied one, and the city’s hometown baseball team will once again recognize that connection with a special tribute night on August 9, 2018. For this year’s celebration, the San Francisco Giants will host a Jerry Garcia Tribute Night at AT&T Park when they play against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

As the event website explains,

Garcia was born in San Francisco on August 1, 1942, and grew up in the city’s Excelsior District, before becoming a founding member of the iconic rock band The Grateful Dead. AT&T Park will be rocking with pre-game music and in-game entertainment, featuring some of Jerry’s most famous hits throughout his illustrious career.

Special Event ticket packages will include a ticket to the San Francisco Giants vs. the Pirates game, along with a collector’s edition Jerry Garcia/Giants theme item. Of course, a portion of the special event ticket proceeds will be donated to benefit The Rex Foundation.

Check out the 2018 t-shirt design, which will be available at the game exclusively for ticket holders, by Jess Rotter. The t-shirt design depicts the outline of Jerry Garcia’s head, with an illustration of Garcia, Bob Weir, and Vince Welnick singing the National Anthem at Candlestick Park in 1993. See below for the shirt design, as well as the video from that performance.
