Turkuaz’s own Shira Elias has released her debut solo single, “Burning” out today on all streaming platforms.
Under a new project, Shira Elias’ Goods & Services, the powerful vocalist is taking advantage of Turkuaz’s time off the road from the halt of all tours and performances due to the COVID-19 cancellations. Turkuaz recently finalized their spring and summer Remain In Light Turns 40 tour dates, celebrating Talking Heads‘ 1980 album with Talking Heads’ co-founder Jerry Harrison, touring guitarist Adrian Belew, and percussionist Yahuba Garcia-Torres, but the likelihood of the tour remains unknown due to the current global state. Elias’ is using this much-needed down time to set a solid foundation and kick-start her own sound and brand.
“Burning” marks Elias’ first solo endeavor, fusing her soulful voice with influences of R&B and pop for a true look inside her depth as an individual artist. Her debut single illustrates the internal struggles we face as a society, now more prominent than ever amid our global lockdowns.
“I really didn’t intend on “Burning” coming out as my first release under Goods & Services, but when all of this virus madness began, I felt that I had to say something about how I, and how I imagine so many of us feel right now. This song is about the frustration, the anger, and ultimately the fire that is inside all of us that can change the path we’ve gone down as a society. It’s a call to arms, really,” Elias confesses.

Elias’ progression as a debut solo vocalist follows Turkuaz’s rebranding as a nine-piece back in November. Along with their newly released EP, Kuadrochrome, the band made headlines as it decided to let go of the usual trademark rainbow color-scheme and rebrand their new-era sound with a fresher look with a “visual palate cleanser” of sharp-dressed black/white/grey/tan. Whether or not the band’s new look inspired the lead vocalist to start a paved path of her own, “Burning” stands as Elias first steps on her journey with Goods & Services, beginning a new era of self-identity.
You can listen to “Burning” on all streaming platforms here and stream it below. This Saturday, April 11th, Elias and producer MEGA will host “Shish Sessions,” a livestream promising covers and originals, plus live production. Viewers can tune into Facebook at 8 p.m. ET.
