Psychedelic electronic duo Shpongle have announced a forthcoming EP featuring both Simon Posford and Raja Ram, along with contributions from horn player Sylvain Carton. To be titled Carnival Of Peculiarities, Shpongle’s first studio release since 2017’s Codex VI will arrive on March 5th.

A statement shared with the album’s announcement details the three new recordings included on the EP will highlight “a seamless flow of three genre-defying tracks that will tickle your auditory receptors and stimulate your neuronal connections.”

A full statement shared with the announcement reads,

This extraordinary sonic voyage features the vivid storytelling, evocative harmonic fabric, and unique fusion of electronic and organic instruments that have made the name Shpongle synonymous with cutting-edge electronica, pushing the limits of musical creativity even beyond barriers already broken by this legendary project.

The Carnival of Peculiarities EP is a mini-album that’s maximal in content, covering the stylistic spectrum and creative range of a full-length release, raising the bars of both musical expression and electronic engineering – an unforgettable odyssey through Shpongleland.

Posford released a new solo album in 2020 entitled Flux & Contemplation – Portrait of an Artist in Isolation. He told Live For Live Music in a July 2020 interview, “Each song title conveys a definite meaning relayed to feelings of quarantine. It sort of summed up my lockdown experience, I guess, the sort of the bewilderment and every day feeling the same, but slightly different. It’s meant to be listened to all the way through from start to finish. It’s sort of a whole thing. It wasn’t made as separate pieces. It was sort of made all as one thing, but mixed in sections. Really, it’s one big track.”

Posford and drummer Joe Russo also teamed up for a duo performance in New York City in December 2019.
