Ain’t no Christmas like a country Christmas, and bluegrass maven Sierra Hull has the perfect soundtrack for your holiday hoedown.
Her latest release, aptly titled Holiday Favorites Vol. 1, includes two festive tracks, namely, covers of Loretta Lynn‘s “Country Christmas” and “The First Snow Fall”, a song made famous by Bing Crosby. The recording is available as a limited edition 7” vinyl as well as on digital streaming platforms.
“I grew up in the country and have always loved our big, loud family gatherings at my Granny’s house with all the pies, cakes and laughter,” Hull wrote in a social media post heralding the release of “Country Christmas”. “This Loretta Lynn classic reminds me of that so clearly and has long been one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy our version!”
Though rare nowadays, two-song vinyl releases like Holiday Favorites Vol. 1 were once the standard way of dropping singles, with the single featured on the 7″ record’s A side and another track included on the B side. The record harkens back to a simpler time, before the music industry went digital, and hopefully the “Vol 1” in the title indicates a forthcoming Vol. 2.
Along with the release, Hull shared a video of each song performed live at a Nashville studio with her band comprised of Erik Coveney on bass, Mark Raudabaugh on drums, Avery Merritt on fiddle and vocals, Shaun Richardson on guitar and vocals, and of course Hull herself on mandolin and vocals.
Check out the two videos below or stream the songs on your preferred platform. Click here to order the vinyl along with limited edition holiday merch including “All I want for Christmas is a mandolin” ornaments.
