In 2017, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds took time off from touring to focus on growth and family. The band’s charismatic powerhouse frontwoman, Arleigh Kincheloe, had a son in 2017, and the group elected to go on hiatus during the end of her pregnancy and through to 2018. With a smattering of triumphant return dates thus far this year, it seems as though Kincheloe is ready to return to the road once again.
The acclaimed soul-rock songstress has just announced that she’ll be releasing a new album in the fall titled Gold. Due out on October 12th, the new album was produced and co-written in collaboration with Carter Matschullat at Brooklyn’s DØØM Studio. As noted in a press release, “the LP takes the classic Dirty Birds sound and turns it into something altogether new, a soul-blasted contemporary pop approach supremely suited for Kincheloe’s immense voice and even greater vision.”
In support of this new studio effort, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds will hit the road in the fall. The band’s Gold tour kicks off in the tail end of August, with dates in Athens, New York, and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on August 30th and 31st. In September, the band will perform Westport, Connecticut’s Blues, Views And BBQ on September 1st ahead of a three-night run that will see the band hit Fredericton, New Brunswick’s Harvest Jazz & Blues Fest; Portland, Maine’s Thompson’s Point with Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats; and Burlington, Vermont’s Grand Point North Festival from the 14th to 16th. Sister Sparrow and company close out the month with two New York performances in Syracuse on the 21st and East Aurora on the 22nd.
Next up, the band will perform a Halloween show on October 31st at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall. The Chicago show will kick off a four-night run that will also see Sister Sparrow roll through Grand Rapids and Ferndale, Michigan, as well as Millvale, Pennsylvania. Dates in Hartford, Connecticut; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Albany, New York follow, with the run spanning from October 8th through 10th. The October dates finish strong with a show on the 15th in Allston, Massachusetts, and the 29th in Washington, DC.
To close out the upcoming Gold tour, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds will play a limited number of shows in December. On the 1st, the band will hit New York City’s Irving Plaza before closing things off with the West Coast leg of their tour—the final two-date run will see the band perform at Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom on December 5th, followed up by San Francisco’s The Independent on the 6th. The band also notes that more dates are coming soon.
