Last year, a new Jazz Fest late-night concept was born with members of Turkuaz and The Motet called Fu*k 2016. The show, which was a celebration of PrinceDavid BowieGeorge MichaelMaurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire, and several other artists who passed away in 2016, was a huge success, with a raucous crowd grooving deep into the night to a mix of familiar radio hits and cleverly-selected rarities.

Now, with another year past and many more incredible artists lost, Turkuaz’s Craig BrodheadMichelangelo Carubba, and Shira Elias and The Motet’s Joey Porter Garrett Sayers, and Lyle Divinsky will come together with special guests Cris JacobsDJ Williams from Karl Denson’s Tiny UniverseNate Werth of Snarky Puppy, and The Turkuaz Horns, to pay their respects to those we lost in 2017 as Fu*k 2017. Now, esteemed jazz saxophonist Skerik will join the lineup for what is sure to be a great night. The show will take place at One Eyed Jacks on Wednesday, May 2nd.

Skerik is known for his tenor and baritone saxophone playing, often using electronics and loops, and ultimately pioneered the playing style that he calls “saxophonics”. The Seattle-based musician is the founder of various space jazz projects, including Critters Buggin, Garage a Trois, Tuatara, and Skerik’s Syncopated Taint Septet, and is an original member of both Les Claypool’s Fancy Band and Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. With a tone unlike any other, Skerik is a complete force to be reckoned with.

2017 was a particularly brutal year, as several iconic artists were taken from us, including Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers BandTom PettyWalter Becker of Steely Dan, and Chuck Berry, to name a few. While we mourn all of their losses deeply, this tribute set should provide the perfect opportunity for Jazz Fest revelers to celebrate the lives and music of these incredible musicians.
