Snarky Puppy performed a headlining show on Sunday at Denver’s Mission Ballroom with help from Eric Krasno & The Assembly. The concert came as the Grammy-winning future jazz collective is on tour supporting Steely Dan, with the band using these headlining concerts to showcase material from its forthcoming Empire Central album.

Eric Krasno opened the show with his newest musical venture with The Assembly. First debuted at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last June ahead of a guest-filled performance by The Motet, the ensemble features the Soulive guitarist alongside Wil Blades (organ/keys), Otis McDonald (bass/vocals), Curtis Kelley (drums/vocals), and James VIII (guitar/vocals).

For the main event, Snarky Puppy turned in an 11-song performance that began with “Keep It On Your Mind”, one of several tracks performed on Sunday to be featured on Empire Central. The expansive lineup of musicians recorded Empire Central before a live audience from March 4th–10th in Dallas, TX, playing two shows per night for seven straight days. The overwhelming majority of the songs performed at Mission Ballroom have only aired less than a dozen times in front of a live audience, per Setlist.fm. Of the 11 songs performed, only two—the set-closing “Shofukan” and encore “Lingus”—had been previously performed before 2022.
