Spafford brought its fall tour to Bloomington, IL on Sunday night for some Bob-themed Halloween festivities. With the Connecticut quartet Eggy in tow, Spafford performed a lengthy set at Castle Theatre, paying homage to the famous Bobs of our time.

Eggy primed the crowd with a four-song set comprised of Crosby, Stills & Nash cuts, starting with “Find The Cost of Freedom”. With each member wearing a mullet and dressed in their best 70s garb, the band segued to “Love The One You’re With” before a take on “Suite Judy Blue Eyes” led to a set-closing rendition of “Helplessly Hoping”.

When Spafford took the stage for its headlining set, the theme immediately became clear. Brian Moss arrived dressed as Bob Belcher from Bob’s BurgersJordan Fairless as Sideshow Bob from The SimpsonsAndrew “Red” Johnson as former The Price Is Right host, Bob Barker, and Nick Tkachyk as everyone’s favorite painter, Bob Ross.

Spafford appropriately opened the show with a take on The Simpsons theme song before a segue to the band’s original, “Lonely”. After Moss threw a few (real) cheeseburgers into the crowd, Spafford launched into the Bob’s Burgers theme song before paying homage to Bob Weir with a take on Grateful Dead‘s “The Other One”. Another original, “The Postman”, followed before Eggy’s Alex Bailey joined in on the action for a drum sit-in on The Joy of Painting theme song in remembrance of Bob Ross. Here, Tkachyk hosted the 404th episode of the classic show, where he painted on stage.

Moss, Fairless, Red, and Tkachyk then threw it back to the band’s 2012 self-titled album with a fan-favorite, “Electric Taco Stand”, before closing the set with an “All In” sandwich filled with The Price Is Right theme song. During the middle portion of this jam sandwich, Moss hosted a live episode of The Price Is Right, with Tkachyk’s painting up for bid. Eggy’s Dani Battat, Michael Goodman, and Bailey served as the contestants, with Battat also sitting in on keys. After a return to “All In”, Spafford took an encore break before continuing the show with Harry Belafonte‘s “Banana Boat (Day-O)”. This saw Battat, Bailey, Goodman, and Jake Brownstein sit-in for a drums jam before Spafford closed the show with another Belafonte cut, “Jump in the Line”.
