It feels like it’s been 84 years since we’ve seen a concert. As the pandemic rages on and keeps bands off the road, Spafford delivered a bit of relief on Monday with a light-hearted video of the band covering “My Heart Will Go On” at Denver’s Ogden Theatre on 10/25/19.

While this cover of Celine Dion‘s theme from the 1997 blockbuster Titanic might seem a bit out of place, it was part of a larger theme for the evening. That theme was themes themselves, as Spafford delivered spirited takes on theme songs from Halloween, Legend of Zelda, Ghostbusters, and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. These songs were all debuted at previous Halloween concerts and this show served as a precursor to the band’s impending Halloween concert at The Van Buren in Pheonix, AZ.

With Andrew “Red” Johnson covering the song’s iconic opening flute with a synthesizer, the communal recognition of the Titanic theme instantly shot through the room. As some members of the audience are undoubtedly still turning to the person next to them and asking, “is this the song from Titanic?”, guitarist Brian Moss transcribes Dion’s vocals to delicate guitar leads. The song is not entirely instrumental, however, as the audience sings along and delivers the lyrics. Spafford had not performed “My Heart Will Go On” since 10/31/2015 at Last Exit Live in Pheonix, AZ.
