Members of The String Cheese Incident recruited some friends for a cover of “Crisis” by Bob Marley. The song, filmed from the artists’ respective quarantines, serves as a tribute to first responders.

The video features SCI members Michael Kang and Jason Hann alongside Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band), Jeff Chimenti (Dead & Company), Nigel Hall (Lettuce), Robert “Sput” Searight (Ghost-Note), Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy / The Fearless Flyers), Shaun Martin (Snarky Puppy), MonoNeon (Ghost Note / Prince).

In the video, Hall, Searight, and Martin count things off with keyboards and drums before the rest of the band drops in. Many of the artists pull double duty on multiple instruments for the tune off Marley’s 1978 album, Kaya. Hartswick eventually comes in to lay down the song’s poignant vocals before the ragtag bunch of musicians take “Crisis” through a sax breakdown, courtesy of Coffin. The vocals ultimately return as Kang joins an overdubbed chorus of Hartswicks before each musician, one by one, turns of his/her camera and we are once again left with a blank screen. Kang said of the song in the video’s description,

Bob Marley’s ‘Kaya’ album has been on repeat for a week straight on my phone! I have always loved “Crisis” and it seems so fitting for the times. Since a bunch of our musician friends have been sitting around, we all remotely “got together” to put this song out as a tribute to all the people on the front line of COVID Relief. Enjoy! We will all get to play together again soon enough!
