Last night, The String Cheese Incident rang in 2018 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, finishing off their three-night run at the historic venue. Coming off of multiple years ringing in the new year at 1st Bank Center in their home state of Colorado, Cheese dazzled the East Coast fan contingency with three monstrous sets, including a four-song second set that was chock full of psychedelic and transcendental jams.

After opening with the Kyle Hollingsworth-led tune, “Can’t Wait Another Day”, the group moved through two older numbers, “Black & White” and “Betray The Dark”, before landing in a cover of Onus B. Johnson’s “Purple Strains (Earl’s Song)”. Round out the first set of String Cheese’s New Year’s show was the one-two punch of a classic “Joyful Sound” into “BollyMunster”.

“Can’t Wait Another Day”

During the band’s four-song second set, the band hit “Close Your Eyes” after the break, eventually landing in “Until The Music’s Over” off 2005’s One Step Closer, before ending out the set with two perennial crowd pleasers, “Restless Wind” and “Texas”.

“Close Your Eyes”

For the third set of the night, after debuting a slinky new tune introduced by Bill Nershi dubbed “Magical Bubbles” with Michael Kang on fiddle, the group worked its way into fan favorite “Rivertrance”. Coming out of the extensive jam, the group landed in The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, a tune last played by String Cheese Incident in 2004. From there, the group accelerated to its close with an upbeat “Jellyfish” before the ending combo of “Tinder Box” into “One Step Closer”.

“Rivertrance”

To end the show in full, the group closed out their New Year’s Run at the Capitol Theatre with “Rosie” into “Valley of the Jig.”
