The Strokes are set to release their follow up studio effort to 2013’s Comedown Machine this week with the highly-anticipated arrival of The New Abnormal on Friday. While the music community certainly applauds the rock group for pushing forward with the album’s planned release amidst this global health crisis, fans will also be thrilled to know that they’ve also launched their own pirate radio-like talk series, which was shared on Wednesday.

Entitled, Five Guys Talking About Things They Know Nothing About, the first episode of the new series arrived via a Zoom video chat showing all five members calling in from their homes. The first 17-minute episode hears The Strokes casually address how they’ve all been stuck at home alongside much of the world’s population. They also pull up footage from the late Bill Withers‘ appearance on Soul Train back in the day and discussed how unfortunate it is that there’s no existing video proof of the time they performed “Walk on the Wild Side” with Lou Reed and Eddie Vedder.

A statement shared by the band with the video’s arrival on Wednesday reads:

Like many out there we are staying pretty much at home and keeping to ourselves. We wanted to see if we could connect with folks, and turned what was supposed to be a pirate radio thing for our album release (which we would make in-person) into a video chat instead… “5 guys talking about things they know nothing about.” In light of everything that’s been happening we hope this distracts you during your quarantine…

The Strokes have already released three songs set to appear on The New Abnormal, including  “Bad Decisions”, “At The Door”, and “Brooklyn Bridge To Chorus”. They’ve also since debuted new originals during select performances over the past year with “The Adults Are Talking” and “Ode To The Mets“.
