In their first live appearance since cancelling their winter tour, the instrumental “post-rock dance” band STS9 debuted two new songs and was joined by Alana Rocklin on bass, replacing former member David Murphy who left the group in January. The group’s 12-song set at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival  in Phoenix, AZ was the first live show the group has played since David Murphy’s departure from the group earlier this year.

Rocklin, who has played with My Morning Jacket frontman, Jim James, Rick Ross, and others, sat in with the band on December 28 of last year for their New Year’s run in Atlanta, GA. No official announcement has been made regarding Rocklin’s role in the group.

The group’s set last Friday featured the debut of two new songs “New Dawn, New Day” (set opener) and “World Go Round”. STS9 has  been reported to be working on a new studio album, although no release date has been set by the band.

For fans trying to catch a live STS9 show, their next concert is in Vail, Colorado for free at Ford Park. The band will also be hitting Counterpoint Festival (GA), Beale Street Music Festival (TN), Hangout Festival (AL), Wakarusa Music Festival (AR) and Electric Forest Festival (MI) this summer.
