In the latest release from the Sugarshack and Live For Live Music “Miami Sessions”, guitarist Tom Hamilton (Ghost Light, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead) delivers a full, five-song acoustic set of originals from the quaint living room of a historic villa in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“Solo sets aren’t something I’ve had the fortune to explore with any real regularity,” Hamilton explains to Live For Live Music, “So when Sugarshack hit me up about this set, I was excited to give it a go.”

While Hamilton’s Miami Session was a change of pace from his usual gigs, this was actually not even his only solo acoustic set that week. A few days after his Miami Session was filmed, Hamilton performed an acoustic set aboard Jam Cruise 18, where he once again delivered the goods.

“Running In Place”, which Sugarshack and Live For Live Music initially premiered back in March, kicks off the set before he moves into the reverb-laden “Desperate Times”. It gets a bit spacey with “Joeline”, as Hamilton uses his foot to fiddle with a delay pedal before layering his soaring vocals atop the mix.

“I said Goddamn,” Hamilton sings, dropping into the penultimate song, appropriately titled “Goddamn”. The tune, which touches upon themes of love-lost and self-reflection, allows him to show off his lead chops with the help of a loop pedal and led seamlessly to the set-closing “Best Kept Secret”, from Ghost Light’s 2019 debut album, Best Kept Secrets. The tempo picks up slightly here and rounds out the performance with a timely improv section. Hamilton loops a driving chord progression which he uses as a foundation for some lead work before jumping back into the song’s chorus.
