T-Pain delivered a soulful mashup of CeeLo Green‘s “Forget You” and Simple Minds‘ “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” during Monday’s episode of That’s My Jam, video of which surfaced on YouTube this past Sunday.
Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, That’s My Jam arrives as an hour-long music and comedy variety game show which sees guests compete in events that draw inspiration from The Tonight Show. Monday’s episode saw guest appearances by actor Anthony Anderson, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha, and of course, T-Pain (real name Faheem Rashad Najm).
The YouTube clip posted this weekend depicts T-Pain playing one of the more interesting games, “Opposites Attract,” which forces a contestant to sing one song over the tune of another. While the two-time Grammy Award winner didn’t feel confident when the spinning wheel delivered his fate, his 90-second mashup actually showed off his vocal range and ability.
After stepping to the mic and setting expectations with a humble “I don’t have this,” T-Pain launched into the mashup as if he had sung it a thousand times before. His interpretation exuded soul and passion, compelling Fallon to exclaim, “He can sing!” Anderson agreed excitedly and watched on as the R&B/hip-hop artist and producer brought the tune home to a roaring audience with a sprawling crescendo.
