“Lost In Yesterday” features the staple Tame Impala vibes of airy drums and synth backing up frontman/producer Kevin Parker‘s spacey vocals. The theme of the song goes along with what fans have been hearing on the three previous singles, “Posthumous Forgiveness“, “It Might Be Time“, and “Borderline“; which is to not be controlled by your past. Parker isn’t merely suggesting that listeners forget their mistakes and disregard yesterday, rather he acknowledges that bygone days will always be a part of our lives. This theme of not getting stuck on the past is best exemplified by the reference to 1993’s Groundhog Day in the chorus, “And you’re gonna have to let it go someday/You’ve been pickin’ it up like Groundhog Day“.

The Slow Rush marks the band’s first studio album since 2015’s Currents, and their fourth career LP since their debut release of InnerSpeaker in 2010. In support of the album, Tame Impala have announced a 2020 summer tour of the United States and Canada, in addition to their pre-existing four-date run of shows in California and Mexico. In addition to a confirmed headlining performance at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, they are also reportedly headlining Governors Ball. Head to the band’s website for tickets and a full list of dates.
