As the music industry continues to cope with various tragic losses in recent months, the importance of fostering a healthy and mindful mental health state grows each day. Recently, a group of more than 50 music industry professionals launched Backline, an industry-wide mental health support initiative earlier this week.
With today being World Mental Health Day, longtime advocate of wellness health, yogi, Jam-queen, author of How To Rock Your Life, and founder of Rocking Life, Taraleigh Weathers has created a creative experience for live music fans who want to rock their minds, bodies, and souls. Focusing as a lifestyle community to help live music fans “tune into your better self”, Weathers fosters a support group that centers around supporting yourself and others around health, vitality, and of course good ol’ fun.
Oteil Burbridge reflects on his experience with Weathers:
I went from feeling like I was incapable of ever feeling at peace inside, to thinking that it was possible, but would probably take a really long time, to realizing I better make it happen immediately after watching a small bunch of people close to me die very young. When you have that fire under your ass, other people who have that same fire stick out to you. We might as well have our foreheads painted with some distinguishing mark. By the way, if you haven’t met her yet, Taraleigh has a huge sequined, sparkly mark on her forehead. Actually it’s probably a full blown headdress. You can’t miss her.
Women with a passion for mental health, live music fans, and those working in the industry can participate in Weathers’ six-week transformational adventure course, Improvisational Vitality. Each week, subscribers will be emailed a guidebook and participate in a weekly Phish– and Grateful Dead– themed live interactive class in which they’ll learn the secrets to feeling confident as an “ageless jamqueen” and, as Taraleigh says, “Crush 3-night runs and make it yoga class on Monday!”
For two years now, Weathers and her husband Dan have been furthering mental health awareness with their own This Wonderful Place retreat center in Morrisville, VT. Weathers just completed her Cosmic AF retreat last month, focusing a weekend of dancing, yoga, and healing methods for attendees.
Want a way to freely express your creative potential in a stress-free environment? Next up is Weathers and Ryan Montbleau’s Songwriter’s Retreat on October 23rd–26th. Attendees will experience one-on-one session with Montbleau, workshops, a Tom Petty tribute show, and a showcase concert.

Montbleau remarks on the upcoming retreat:
I’ve hosted several retreats now and each and every one has been magical in its own way. I could not do them without Taraleigh, my sista from a distant mista. T’s special powers lie in opening people up to their potential. She has this magical ability, I still don’t quite understand it, to provide the specific space that people need to have their own personal breakthroughs, whatever they may be. She’s encouraging and inspirational. She allows. This retreat will be as much about opening yourself up to your own potential as it will be about songwriting. That being said, I’m ready to teach you everything I know about writing songs. And if you like, everything I know about performance and the music business too. We are at your service.
Those wanting an immersive wellness getaway have the option of attending Weathers’ fourth annual Rocking Life Retreat in Costa Rica in March 2020. Those looking for an out-of-this-world local music experience can expect and be treated to transformational workshops, yoga, meditation, healthy local Costa Rican cuisine, live local music, and dancing at local shows—all awhile exploring secret waterfalls, warming around bonfires, and gazing at tropical sunsets.
Weathers is dedicated to fostering a healthy and mindful life for all music fans. Whether you’re a musician, festival-goer, or new or seasoned live music fan, there are many ways to get involved in helping to prosper your own and others’ mental well-being surrounding one of our favorite things in life, music.
