TAUK and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong provided a dose of 90’s nostalgia in the video of their live cover of Quad City DJs‘ “Space Jam”.

Filmed by Tim McGuire at The Riviera in Chicago, IL, the video shows both bands uniting in their entirety for a blowout end to TAUK’s set opening for Pigeons on February 12th, 2022. The song begins with a prerecorded sample from the original Quad City DJs track, which was the theme for the 1996 blockbuster movie Space Jam starring Michael Jordan. TAUK drummer Isaac Teel raps the song’s lyrics and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong frontman Greg Ormont sings the chorus before the bands launch into an extended improvised jam.

The jam gets as spacey as the song’s title suggests, with overlapping ethereal textures and staccato, “Plinko”-style guitar. At one point, TAUK guitarist Matt Jalbert says, “We have a little more time than we thought, so maybe we should just stretch it out,” to which the crowd responds with roaring approval. After a groovy group improvisation, the bands return to the chorus for an emphatic finish.
