Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. for the third of four shows this week. Between the weekend affairs, the 12-piece celebrated their album release in Brooklyn, New York with a phenomenal performance at Brooklyn Music Academy, which took an emotional turn just days after the loss of their own Kofi Burbridge. With a few days of necessary time off, the band returned to the stage on Friday night with a two-set scorcher.

The band kicked off the night with back-to-back originals, “Don’t Let Me Slide” and “Don’t Know What It Means” before charging into their own rendition of The Box Tops‘ “The Letter” with mighty vocals from Susan Tedeschi. The husband-and-wife duo brought it back down for a soulful version of “Don’t Drift Away” before bringing back Charles Segar‘s “Key to the Highway”. After showcasing SIGNS lead single, “Hard Case”, two Derek Trucks Band songs followed before a set-closing cover of “Show Me” by Joe Tex. The Derek Trucks Band songs are always welcome by longtime followers of Derek Trucks, and “Days Is Almost Gone” and “Joyful Noise” were sure to satisfy fans old and new.

For their second set, Tedeschi Trucks Band let their Allman Brothers Band roots show with their own rendition of Blind Willie McTell‘s “Statesboro Blues”. It was pure originality from there, leading into “I’m Gonna Be There”, “It’s So Heavy”, “Just As Strange”, and “I Want More” from their career-spanning songbook. The fan-favorite combination of “Angel From Montgomery” and “Sugaree” came next, followed by an energetically-charged “Let Me Get By” and yet another DTB song, “Get What You Deserve” show-closer.

Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the stage for a “Going, Going, Gone” cover of Bob Dylan and “Signs, High Times” in the encore slot.
