Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the Beacon Theatre on Friday night for the group’s sixth show of a seven night residency at the historic venue.

Both sets were marked by a slew of covers, from Willie Nelson and Blind Joe Reynolds to Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and the late John Prine. It was set two, however, that saw TTB welcome in former frontman of The London Souls, Tash Neal, to the stage.

Set one got underway with “Learn How to Love”, from the band’s 2011 debut album, Revelator. Two more originals, 2016’s “Let Me Get By” and 2019’s “I’m Gonna Be There”, followed before the twelve-piece treated the crowd to a couple of covers; namely Bessie Smith‘s “Gin House Blues” and Willie Nelson’s “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces”.

Kicking it back to 2016’s Let Me Get By album, Susan Tedeschi led the band through “Laugh About It” before Derek Trucks‘ blistering lead guitar ushered them into Blind Joe Reynolds’ “Outside Woman Blues”. A take on the Susan Tedeschi original, “Just Won’t Burn”, highlighted by Tedeschi’s always-luminous vocals and Trucks’ silky smooth slide guitar, followed ahead of a set closing rendition of Billy Taylor‘s “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free”.

Just as they opened set one, TTB kicked off set two with another Relevator track, “These Walls”, which saw Trucks soothe the crowd with his acoustic guitar.

Next up came a few covers; the recently-debuted cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Dear Doctor”, Bob Dylan’s “Lord Protect My Child”, and Elmore James‘ “Done Somebody Wrong”. The Elmore James cover saw some particularly gritty playing from Trucks, while keyboardist Gabe Dixon traded vocal duties with Tedeschi.

Moving through the second set, TTB ran through another Revelator track, “Simple Things”, before Let Me Get By‘s “Just As Strange” and the title track to 2013’s Made Up Mind. From there they ran through another grouping of covers, John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” and Neil Young‘s “Helpless”, before inviting Tash Neal onstage for a take on Elmore James‘ “The Sky Is Crying”.

Set two came to a spectacular conclusion with “I Want More”, which segued to a cover of Santana‘s “Soul Sacrifice”. After a quick encore break, the twelve-piece regrouped on stage for a final song, this time running through Tedeschi’s “The Feeling Music Brings”.
