On Friday night, Tedeschi Trucks Band continued their three-night run at the historic Chicago Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, marking the second night of the run. While Thursday performance saw a set by JJ Grey & Mofro ahead of the band’s performance, last night, the group headed by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks played two soulful sets as an “Evening with Tedeschi Trucks Band.”

With two sets on the table, the group had the opportunity to dive deep into their catalog of originals and covers, with highlights from the first set being the frame’s climactic ending of “Get What You Deserve” and “Idle Wind”. The second set further built off the momentum of set one. After the set-opening cover of Hambone Willie Newbern’s “Rollin’ and Tumblin'”, the group hit “Do I Look Worried” before a triumphant “Simple Things”. The latter was a true delight for fans, given that the tune has only recently been revived by the group.

Following “Simple Things”, Tedeschi Trucks Band offered up a number of classic covers including Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk”, Rahsaan Roland Kirk’s “Volunteered Slavery”, and Elmore James’ “The Sky Is Crying”. During the following “Angel From Montgomery”, TTB worked in a cover of “Sugaree” throughout, before accelerating to the end of the set with “Shame” and “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free”. To close out the show, the band paid tribute to the recently fallen Tom Petty with a rendition of “You Don’t Know How It Feels” before the final song, “Let’s Go Get Stoned”.
