This past Saturday, Tedeschi Trucks Band played the renowned Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN, where they welcomed special guest Jerry Douglas.

The show’s first set was business-as-usual as TTB brought their patented southern-fried soul to Nashville with originals like “Learn How To Love”, “Don’t Know What It Means”, “Do I Look Worried”, and many more. They also played some well-placed covers, including Bob Dylan‘s “Down in the Flood” and Willie Nelson‘s “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces”.

The real excitement, however, came when the second set began and Derek Trucks surprised the audience by taking the stage with Douglas. The duo performed the Allman Brothers Band original “Little Martha”, just the two of them, before the rest of the band took the stage. Douglas wasn’t going anywhere when the rest of the band joined in for a rendition of “Strengthen What Remains” from TTB’s 2019 album Signs. Douglas got comfortable as the ensemble then went through the Derek and the Dominos song “I Am Yours”, followed by “It Hurst Me Too” by Tampa Red, “Leaving Trunk” by Sleepy John Estes, and finally “Volunteered Slavery” by Rashaan Roland Kirk, after which Douglas appeared to finally bid farewell to the band. After a few more songs, however, Douglas returned to the stage to join in on the set-closing “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”.
