Tedeschi Trucks Band played their third of four nights this week at the Ryman Auditorium last night in Nashville, TN. Scheduled as an “Evening With” the band, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi led their 12-piece powerhouse through two full sets of their signature blues-rock, mixing together an impressive mix of originals and covers. Toward the end of their set, Tedeschi Trucks Band welcomed American country singer Wynonna Judd to the stage for vocal accompaniment on their second set-closing original “Bound For Glory” and a cover of Hambone Willie Newbern‘s “Rollin’ and Tumblin” during the encore. In 2016, both Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi appeared on Wynonna & The Big Noise, making for an appropriate return in collaboration. Wynonna’s guest appearance made for an exciting surprise of the night, following buckets of highlights from the husband-and-wife led band.

Tedeschi Trucks Band kept most of the first set original, with back-to-back favorites “Do I Look Worried” and “Don’t Know What It Means” to open the show. Following a reliable Box Tops cover of “The Letter”, the band continued with a fairly rare version of “Until You Remember” from 2011’s Revelator. Lonnie Young, Ed Young, & Lonnie Young, Jr.‘s “Chevrolet” came next, another song left out of their reliable songbook, before the band soared through three originals, “Don’t Drift Away”, “Part Of Me”, and “I Want More”. The first set closed with the Latin-infused outro jam of “Soul Sacrifice” by Santana.

The second set picked back up with a newly-introduced cover of Tom Petty‘s “You Don’t Know How It Feels” into 2013’s title track of Made Up Mind. The energy continued with a classic cover of Allen Toussaint‘s “Get Out My Life, Woman” into the band’s heart-wrenching original “Midnight In Harlem”. The second set continued with four genre-spanning covers “Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever” by Four Tops, “Color of the Blues” by George Jones, “Comin’ Home” by Delaney & Bonnie and “I Pity The Fool” by Bobby “Blue” Bland. The second set closed with a strong “Bound For Glory”, which featured the talented Wynonna Judd on vocals.

The band and Wynonna returned for “Rollin’ and Tumblin”, before closing the set with an energetically-charged “Sing A Simple Song / I Want To Take You Higher” by Sly & The Family Stone. Tedeschi Trucks Band will return to the stage tonight for their final night at the Ryman Auditorium, before taking the month of March off.
