Tedeschi Trucks Band will look toward 2022 for the rescheduled dates of their Wheels of Soul tour, the band announced on Monday. The 2022 edition of TTB’s annual multi-band summer tour will feature TTB keyboardist Gabe Dixon and his trio as well as new addition Los Lobos.
The announcement confirms that 2021 will be the second straight summer without a TTB Wheels of Soul tour as the ever-developing pandemic picture continues to present fundamental challenges to touring bands. The scheduled 2020 edition of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s annual multi-band summer tour, initially set to feature Dixon and St. Paul and The Broken Bones, was pushed to 2021 last May as COVID-19 continued to spread, with the majority of the 2020 tour’s dates being rescheduled for one year later. As those 2021 dates approach, ongoing safety issues and crowd size restrictions continue to preclude the collaboration-oriented tour featuring a number of large bands, prompting yet another postponement.
“We are extremely disappointed at having to postpone Wheels of Soul again,” says Derek Trucks in a press release. “We’re all missing the energy of live music – and there’s nothing like playing these large, outdoor shows alongside bands we admire. We were really hoping to get back on stage and dive into some fun big band collaborations with St. Paul, but unfortunately, with all the uncertainty, it just couldn’t work this year.”
While Wheels of Soul is out for 2021, Tedeschi Trucks Band plans to perform in some capacity much sooner than 2022. A press release about the tour postponement also noted that “until venues open fully and with consideration for the safety of their fans and crew, the group is organizing some socially-distanced, limited capacity shows for this summer. The band plans to make an announcement about these special performances in the coming weeks.”
