On Friday evening, Tedeschi Trucks Band continued their ongoing winter tour with a stop at City Auditorium in Macon, GA, the ancestral home of the Allman Brothers Band–a group to whom TTB is inextricably tied.  Guitarist Derek Trucks, in addition to being the nephew of longtime Allmans drummer Butch Trucks, played with the band from a young age through their final shows in 2014, an extended residency at The Beacon Theatre in New York City. Keeping with that tradition, Tedeschi Trucks Band has co-opted the tradition of extended Beacon residencies (this year, they celebrated their 25th Beacon show, and followed that up with two more for good measure).

With a scheduled performance in Macon on their list of tour dates, many wondered how the band would acknowledge the Allman connection on Friday night. After a thrilling if standard performance, that question was answered with a standout “Whipping Post” set closer, the Macon crowd roaring in approval as Derek wailed away.
