Over the weekend, LOCKN’ Music Festival curated one of the best festival experiences of the year. Packed with surprise sit-ins, unique tribute sets, and perfect weather, every jam band fan who wasn’t at LOCKN’ this weekend will certainly make sure they are next year. Tedeschi Trucks Band, for example, played Saturday (welcoming Ian and Ivan Neville) and Sunday nights. The husband-and-wife duo has played four out of the five years of the festival’s existence, and have quickly become LOCKN’ staples. On Sunday night, the twelve piece ensemble welcomed out jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis, a frequent collaborator of the Grateful Dead in the 1990s who was also on-site to collaborate with Dead & Company, and special guest Eric Krasno

Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off their set with a nod to the Allman Brothers Band, who played Live At Filmore East at the festival in 2014, with a cover of their rendition of “Statesboro Blues”, originally written by Blind Willie McTell. The band kept it original for their next four songs, giving fans a career-spanning selection of soul-stirring tunes to sway on. After charging through their recently-revived cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Down in the Flood”, the band delivered a this summer’s third version of “Sweet & Low”.

At this point in the set, TTB welcomed out saxophonist Branford Marsalis to collaborate on The Derek Trucks Band‘s “Mahjoun” and Let Me Get By‘s “I Want More”. For “Mahjoun”, Kofi Burbridge stepped into center stage with his flute to go toe-to-toe with Trucks, while Marsalis stood with TTB’s three-piece horn section.

From there, Tedeschi Trucks Band went deep into cover territory with their own versions of Neil Young‘s “Alabama”, The Derek Trucks Band’s “Get What You Deserve”, Roosevelt Sykes‘ “Night Time Is the Right Time”, and Bob Dylan’s “Going, Going, Gone”, which featured special guest guitarist Eric Krasno, who took home a Grammy for with the band back in 2014 for Revelator, which won “Best Blues Album”. The band concluded with another Summer 2018 tune, “Shame”, before closing the curtain with Joe Cocker‘s “Space Captain”.

Tedeschi Trucks Band has another break until mid-September, where they’ll regroup for a number of Outlaw Music Festival appearances in the northeast. In October, they’ll spend six nights at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, before continuing with a few more dates this fall. Head to the band’s official website for more information.
