Tedeschi Trucks Band concluded their two-night run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on Wednesday night. Following Tuesday’s Evening With Tedeschi Trucks Band, the twelve-piece powerhouse welcomed Amy Helm to open up the night before taking off on a super-charged extended set. Thoroughly loose from the night before, Tedeschi Trucks Band opened the show with one of their new originals, “Shame”, which was introduced in the summer of 2017. Next, they moved into NOLA-inspired, horn-heavy “Don’t Know What It Means” from 2016’s Let Me Get By. The transitional “Swamp Raga”, a bonus track from The Derek Trucks Band‘s 2009 Already Free album, followed before moving into an emotionally-charged string of originals: the heart-tugging “Midnight In Harlem” and “Don’t Let Me Slide” from 2011’s Revelator–the first official release after The Derek Trucks Band merged with Susan Tedeschi‘s band to form Tedeschi Trucks Band–and the newly-introduced “All the World”. On a day when much of the world furrowed their brows at the news and the overall state of the country, as high school students in TTB’s home state fought for their security and protection, the rock and soul of Tedeschi Trucks Band was especially poignant.

The husband-and-wife duo led the band through Elmore James‘ blues standard “The Sky Is Crying” to begin the classic cover portion of the evening. Derek Trucks Band’s “Get What You Deserve” came next, followed by the band’s cover of “All My Friends” by Cowboy, which was debuted in 2010 but revived at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ on Valentine’s Day this year. From there, another relatively-rare cover of Four Tops‘ “Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever” presented itself, followed by a traditional cover of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?”–a song that the Allman Brothers Band played throughout their career, and on almost every night of their final week at the Beacon Theatre in October of 2014.

As if hitting the recharge button, Tedeschi Trucks Band bounced back into their anthemic “Bound For Glory”, another favorite from 2011’s Revelator, followed by their go-to cover of John Prine‘s “Angel From Montgomery”. In a nod to their setting–the legendary Capitol Theatre, which Jerry Garcia famously named as one of his two favorite venues in the whole country–the band swung into “Sugaree”, before closing the set with Let Me Get By‘s “I Want More”.

For their encore, Tedeschi Trucks Band once again swung open the door with a charged two-song nod to Sly & The Family Stone, moving from “Sing a Simple Song” into “I Want To Take You Higher”, the song pairing’s first appearance since the band’s encore rendition with Jon Batiste on 10/2/15. Thanks to Jonathan Healey and Relix, you can watch pro-shot video of the full show below:
