On Friday and Saturday night, Derek TrucksSusan Tedeschi, and company brought their stripped-down Fireside LIVE band lineup to Red Rocks in Morrison, CO.

Ahead of the shows, the band revealed a surprise addition to the lineup for the run, drummer/multi-instrumentalist Isaac Eady. Doubling down on the exciting news, the band announced that Eady will continue on with the group and the new full-time Tedeschi Trucks Band drummer (alongside Tyler Greenwell), following J.J. Johnson‘s departure from the band last year.

As the announcement explained of the new addition to the TTB live roster, “Isaac is a talented multi-instrumentalist from New Orleans and while tonight will be his first concert with us on drums, he has contributed extensively in the studio already alongside his bandmates.”

The Friday, July 30th performance welcomed Tedeschi Trucks fans back to the beloved venue to continue the band’s long-running tradition in Morrison. After opening with a striding cover of Dr. John‘s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters”, the band worked through a number of setlist staples from throughout the ongoing Fireside LIVE tour.

Set two featured three songs pulled from the Derek and the Dominos album in continued celebration of the bands hit live LP, Layla Revisited, released last week.

As rain started to pour down on the rocks, the band continued through a cover-heavy set featuring renditions of “Leaving Trunk” (Sleepy John Estes), “Volunteered Slavery” (Rahsaan Roland Kirk), and “Angel From Montgomery”/”Sugaree” (John Prine/Grateful Dead).

An appropriately blustering rendition of “The Storm” finally led into the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Whipping Post” to close the show before Susan-penned ballad “The Feeling Music Brings” brought the show to a close.

On Saturday night, the seven-piece Tedeschi Trucks lineup returned to Red Rocks for one final blowout. After starting off strong with The Beatles’ “I’ve Got A Feeling”, the band built up steam throughout a first set filled with fan favorites and a closing rendition of Blind Faith‘s “Had To Cry Today”.

For the second set of the night and the final set of the weekend at Red Rocks, the seven-piece grew into an eight-piece when the incredible Nels Cline joined the fray. The otherworldly Wilco guitarist and frequent TTB collaborator pushed and pulled Derek and Susan in new, creative as the band opened the set with a one-two punch of cover debuts in “Don’t Want You No More” (The Spencer Davis Group) and the Allman’s “It’s Not My Cross To Bear”.

Following powerful versions of “High & Mighty” and “Shame”, Susan offered up her original tune “Looking For Answers”. “That Did It” by Bobby “Blue” Bland kept the blues thread running before the eight-piece outfit emphatically closed the set with a pair of ABB covers —”Dreams” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”—sandwiched around the band’s own rocker, “I Want More”.

Less of a forecast and more of a recap, Tedeschi Trucks finally returned to encore with “Bound For Glory”.
