Following its release in 1996, That Thing You Do! and its featured uber-catchy fictional single by the same name became a fan-favorite sing-a-long film and song which have both managed to last the test of time–as hit songs normally do. So fans will be thrilled to know that the film’s fictional band, The Wonders–often confused for Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters–will reunite later this week in hopes of raising money for COVID-19 relief.

Four of the actors from the 1996 film, including Tom Everett Scott (drummer Guy Patterson), Johnathon Schaech (singer Jimmy), Steve Zahn (guitarist Lenny), and Ethan Embry (bass player-turned-Marine T.B. Player) will reunite to join forces for an online watch party of That Thing You Do! on Friday (4/17). The virtual event will begin at 7 p.m. EST and will air for free via The Wonders YouTube page.

The online movie event will act as a fundraising benefit for MusiCares, in addition to a communal tribute to the late musician and songwriter Adam Schlesinger, who wrote the film’s main song but unfortunately passed away earlier this month due to complications from coronavirus.

In addition to reliving the feel-good music film with the actors, fans will get the chance to submit questions in advance via the castmember’s social media accounts to be answered during the broadcast event.

Fans can tune into the video player below beginning at 7 p.m. EST this Friday to relive the film in all its pop music glory.
