The Avett Brothers returned to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday for a performance of “I Go To My Heart”. The track comes off the group’s latest studio offering, The Third Gleam, which saw a reduction in staff down to Seth and Scott Avett beside bassist Bob Crawford.

This latest appearance comes following The Avett Brothers’ New Year’s Eve livestream from Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in Charlotte, NC. The Avett’s 17th annual New Year’s Eve concert saw a reunion of the full band for the first time in nearly a year, as well as special guest appearances from Willie Nelson, Brandi Carlile, and more.

This pre-recorded performance also took place at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and was likely taped when the band had dominion over the ornate concert hall. Though the band has made its rounds with “I Go To My Heart” and other Third Gleam tracks since the album’s release back in August, the song is hard to grow tired of as it carries the timeless quality of the Avett’s scruffy, pre-fame youth.

As for this performance, the Avetts and Crawford take to the balcony rather than the stage and perform in black and white. The somber air of the recording soon fades away, however, as color returns to the screen in an almost Wizard Of Oz style when Scott hits the titular refrain.
