The Disco Biscuits returned to Philly on the last day of 2024 to ring in the new year at The Fillmore with a show built around two contrasting concepts, “fire” and “ice.” In addition to eye-popping production, wardrobe, and themed songs during an ice-focused first set and a fire-oriented second set in Philly, the band tied a bow on the “fire and ice” concept by debuting both a techno reimagining of the theme song from Game of Thrones (which was based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire), and their own original response, the aptly titled “Philly Fire & Ice”.
The first set featured a collection of “fire”-based songs, including set-opening “Rockafella” (“Campfire outside against the cold”), the dragonfire-infused “Spaga”, and “Above The Waves” (“Corrinado swam like hell on fire”). The set also featured a particularly fitting “Fire Will Exchange”, which made its first-ever appearance during The Disco Biscuits’ 2023 New Year’s Eve show on the same stage. The second set shifted to an ice theme, with Jon Barber (guitar), Marc Brownstein (bass), Aron Magner (keys, samples) and Allen Aucoin (drums) changing from their fire-dyed first-set jumpsuits to new, icy, white-gray getups to reflect the change in scenery. They crystallized the second set ice t heme with songs like “Tourists (Rocket Ship)” (“I don’t wanna be stuck inside a world that’s frozen”), “Floes” (“I’ll let myself go. And swim in the ice”), and “Freeze” (self-explanatory) as a simulated “snowfall” floated down on fans.
Accompanying each set was enthralling visuals from lighting director Herm Schneider, with added video walls and fire/ice smoke machines capturing the energy of each theme. The sets also featured numerous themed launched by Magner including “Burn” (Ellie Goulding), “Fire” (Jimi Hendrix), “Ice Ice Baby” (Vanilla Ice), “Tweezer” (Phish), and “Cold as Ice” (Foreigner).

As midnight approached late in set two, the band debuted their untz-ified take on Game of Thrones‘ “Song of Fire & Ice”, then shifted to their own new entry, “Philly Fire & Ice”, before closing the set with a NYE-ad-libbed “Helicopters”. The crowd response to the new original, in particular, was ecstatic. Even beyond the specificity of the title to the evening’s theme, the lyrics to “Philly Fire & Ice” were wholly of the moment, summing up a banner year and setting a purposeful course for 2025:
Philly have a Happy New Year
2024 was just the tip of the spear
For the love of the game
Come on and pop the champagne, oh yeah
Philly have a happy new year
The band is on fire and our mission is clear
We got ice in our veins
Come on and pop the champagne, oh yeah
For their third and final set, The Disco Biscuits got started with “Sister Judy’s Soul Shack” and powered their way through “The Deal”, “Dino Baby”, and “Run Like Hell” before returning to “Sister Judy’s Soul Shack” to cap a landmark year.
The Disco Biscuits will get started quickly on their 2025 agenda when they hit the West Coast for their Bubble Tour beginning later this month. Find a full list of dates here.
