The Disco Biscuits stopped by The Anthem in Washington, D.C. on Saturday with Philly brass band Snacktime on as support. The band played two segue-heavy sets and welcomed members of Snacktime to sit in on a string of funky bust-out covers including Kool & the Gang‘s “Get Down on It”, Rick James‘s “Give It to Me Baby”, and David Bowie‘s “Let’s Dance”.
Following an opening set from Snacktime, The Disco Biscuits kicked off their first set with “Plan B” followed by fan favorite “Kitchen Mitts”. The remainder of the set featured a contiguous sequence beginning and ending with “Above the Waves”, with two new songs, “Shocked!” and “The Deal”, placed in the middle.
The band debuted “The Deal” just over a month ago during their New Year’s run at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago. “Shocked!” is the band’s most recent studio release and will appear on the forthcoming rock opera by guitarist Jon Gutwillig, keyboardist Aron Magner, and longtime friend Joey Friedman.
For set two, The Disco Biscuits segued from one song to another without stopping the entire set. They opened the frame with three dancey covers featuring members of Snacktime on horns. Kool & the Gang’s “Get Down on It” (last played by the band on Halloween 2015) led into Rick James’s “Give It to Me Baby” (last played in February 2017), which in turn gave way to David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”. From there, the band continued on through “Caterpillar”, “Who’s In Charge”, “Anthem” (a clever nod to the venue), and “The Wormhole” before returning to “Caterpillar” to close the sequence and the set. For the encore, they selected “Story of the World”.

The Disco Biscuits’ upcoming tour dates include multi-night runs at The Caverns, The Captiol Theatre, Belly Up Aspen, and Mission Ballroom. In May, they will head to Reykjavik, Iceland for the band’s TranceAtlantic destination event, and they will perform at Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, IL upon their return.
