The Highwomen will make their headlining debut as part of the historic Echoes Through The Canyon weekend of concerts at The Gorge Amphitheatre. Presented by Brandi Carlile in her home state of Washington, the newly-expanded three-night affair will host the first ticketed Joni Mitchell concert in 22 years.

Announced last month, the weekend in George, WA will begin on June 9th with headliner Brandi Carlile along with special guests Marcus Mumford and Allison Russell. On Saturday, folk legend Joni Mitchell will take the stage for her first headlining show since 2000, supported by a “Joni Jam” comprised of Carlile, Marcus Mumford, Allison Russell, Wendy & Lisa, Blake Mills, Lucius, Celisse, Taylor Goldsmith, Ben Lusher, and Rick Whitefield. Then on Sunday, the weekend will close with The Highwomen featuring Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires, and Natalie Hemby. The Grammy-winning supergroup will receive support from Tanya Tucker.

“The Gorge shows sold out so fast that the fine folks out there asked me if I’d like to do something on Sunday,” Carlile wrote on social media. “Joni Mitchell told me very sweetly to eff off cause she’s gonna go home.”

Carlile went on to point out, “The Highwomen have never really had a full show with no time limit and we are going to throw a party.” Until now, the group has only played award shows and festivals, including Carlile’s own Girls Just Wanna Weekend destination event as well as AmericanaFestBottle Rock NapaNewport Folk Festival, and more.

Echoes Through The Canyon comes after Mitchell made her historic return to the stage this past summer at Newport Folk. The surprise set from the then 78-year-old singer-songwriter marked her comeback from a brain aneurysm suffered in 2015. During her recuperation, celebrated artists flocked to her home for what became known as the “Joni Jams.” Many of those artists joined her at Newport for an all-star set that included Carlile, Marcus Mumford, Blake Mills, Lucius, Taylor Goldsmith, and more.
