The John Mayer Trio Is Recording Their First Album Since 2005

Based on the following Instagram post, it’s clear that John Mayer is in the studio, recording something with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan. The three members of the John Mayer Trio reunited on Late Night With Seth Myers back in 2014, but haven’t released any new material since Try! (2005).

For longtime fans of Mayer, this will certainly be perceived as great news, as the Trio represents some of the guitarist’s finest work. For Grateful Dead fans, however, the new reunion raises questions as to the future of Dead & Company. While it is conceivable that Mayer would be able to rock both the JMT and Dead & Co, fans will just have to wait for more official information to have these questions answered.

Fortunately, Mayer did promise more Dead & Company at the band’s New Year’s show, so we’re optimistic.
