It was a family reunion of historic proportions on Thursday outside Vancouver where Ziggy, Stephen, Julian, Ky-Mani, and Damian Marley reunited as The Marley Brothers to kick off The Legacy Tour, their first joint outing in two decades.
Between them, The Marley Brothers have amassed 22 total Grammys, but Thursday’s show and the entire tour are about paying tribute to their father and reggae pioneer Bob Marley. At Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, BC, five of Bob’s seven sons ran through a 20-song setlist comprised mostly of their father’s enduring hits. Seminal reggae anthems “Get Up, Stand Up”, “War / No More Trouble”, “Iron Lion Zion”, “Is This Love”, “Three Little Birds”, and many more filled the air as smiles abounded between the brothers.
Between Bob’s timeless classics, his sons snuck in a few of their best-known songs including Ziggy’s “Shalom Salaam”, Ky-Mani’s “Get High”, and Damian and Stephen’s collaborative “Medication”. In the end, it all came back to Bob with a double shot of love in the encore as “Could You Be Loved” and “One Love” closed the show and sent the brothers off on their North American tour.
The 22-date Legacy Tour continues throughout September and into early October as the brothers travel from coast to coast.
