Denver, CO funk quintet The Motet will stage its return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre in nearby Morrison on May 27th with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. The evening will also see support from Cory Henry and a variety of guests who will join The Motet during its headlining set.
After the keys virtuoso Cory Henry kicks off the evening with his unique blend of R&B, soul, and jazz, Pigeons will perform an extended set of its particular brand of high-energy psychedelic funk. The Baltimore, MD-based four-piece last graced the stage at Morrison’s iconic venue on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 during a co-headline show with Twiddle. This latest Red Rocks appearance will come amid the band’s 2022 Perspective tour, which sees PPPP traversing the country in support of its forthcoming studio album of the same name, due out on April 8th.
Back for the second time in less than a year, The Motet has an eclectic crew of special guests set to join the group in Morrison during its Keep On Don’t Stoppin’ Tour. Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood) will join in on percussion, former Turkuaz members Shira Elias and Sammi Garett will provide assistance on vocals while The Horn Section adds some brass. Cory Henry will serve double duty, offering an opening set then providing support on keys throughout the headlining performance.
“I’ve had the honor to play Red Rocks at least 10 times now in various capacities and I still get choked up at some point throughout the day. I’ll walk up to the top row after soundcheck and I’m inevitably moved to tears,” said The Motet guitarist Ryan Jalbert. “It’s not just because of the beauty of the venue, which is of course stunning, it’s more so just being touched by the immense support of all of our fans that stick with us through thick and thin, ups and downs, lineup changes, global pandemics, whatever… and then we have our chance to celebrate together under the stars at this amazing place.”
