While the dust has barely settled on The Rolling Stones’ ’50 and Counting Tour’, the band’s next big gig may have already been leaked. Earlier today, The Rolling Stones official website and iPhone app both listed the date April 13th, the location of Indio, California, and the title ‘Coachella 2013′ under future tour dates. The post was quickly removed, but not before many fans could take screen grabs and spread the news via Twitter.
While The Stones don’t usually play festivals, this would make a lot of sense. Keith Richards said earlier this year that “we aint doing all this for four gigs”, and Coachella would be the biggest US event the band could play. How do you top a live pay per view special with appearances from some of the biggest names in music today? Headline the country’s most famous music festival, of course. And plus, The Stones as a headliner is just so Coachella.
Speaking of last night’s pay per view, it seemed to have gone off without a hitch. The band was joined by Bruce Springsteen for a huge take on ‘Tumblin’ Dice’, Lady Gaga sang Merry Clayton’s famous vocal part on ‘Gimme Shelter’, and The Black Keys joined The Stones’ for an ambitious cover of Bo Diddley’s ‘Who Do You Love’. Unannounced, John Mayer and Gary Clark Jr. showed up to beef up ‘I’m Going Down’.
